Spring’s Hottest Floral Trend: Paper Flowers

With spring in full swing, we’ve got floral on the mind and so does everyone else.  From haute interiors to simple floral arrangements, the newest trend in floral is, believe or not, paper.  Even House Beautiful graced its March cover with a beautiful faux botanical work of art featuring crisp whites and vibrant yellows.  A wonderful way to brighten your home, these whimsical and delicate creations are just as lovely as real blooms.

Why go paper?  Paper flowers clearly take the prize for longevity.  And what a wonderful way to express your creativity with color and form (if you feel like a DIY project that is).  So we get the main argument against paper flowers – no scent.  Well, no problem.  Scent is our specialty.  Pair your favorite floral of the season with your paper blooms and achieve the same aroma as if the flowers were freshly picked from your garden.  Some of our favorite spring scents include: English Garden Radiance Collection, Spring Lilac Premium Round, Dahlia Limited Edition Village Classics, Gardenia Premium Round, Just For You Premium Round, Scarlet Berry Tulip Premium Round, Wild Rose Premium Round, and Violet Blossom Premium Round.

Palms, Palms, and More Palms – Home Décor Inspired by the Palm Breeze Candle Collection

Reminiscent of the famous Martinique wallpaper at the iconic Beverly Hills hotel, palms have become one of the hottest trends in both home décor and fashion, and we just can’t get enough! In fact, we are palm crazy over here and inspired by our April Scent of the Month – Palm Breeze Glass Pillar Collection. Here’s a sampling of some of our favorite ways to add a little green in your life with that cool, eclectic Palm Beach style, pairing nicely with the lovely blue water lotus, fresh green grass, and sharp wild fern aromas offered from our Palm Breeze candle.

Pink & Leafy Greens: Ever think about pairing hot pink with a palm leaf? Probably not, but here are some great photos of interiors committed to this interesting color pairing.

Palm Leaf Fabric: Add a little Palm Beach flare by taking palms to upholstery. It works for anything in any room – pillows, chairs, curtains, you name it!

If you’re not committed to an entire room of palms, just going with a few small leaves or a small tree in the corner will make an impact. There’s nothing like fresh greenery in the house to liven up the space and bonus, most palms will help keep the air clean!

Celebrating our June Candle of the Month: Flavorful Recipes for Iced Tea

There’s nothing like a cold glass of old-fashioned southern iced tea during the hot summer months.  Not only is it a refreshing beverage, but tea is also loaded with tons of healthy antioxidants (the same ones found in red wine) and helps fight cancer and heart disease.  In fact, we love sweet tea so much that we named our Sweet Tea New Kitchen Collection candle as our June Candle of the Month!  So in honor of our favorite summer drink, we’ve provided helpful tips to making the perfect batch as well as delicious recipes to add a little extra flavor.  Enjoy!

Scented Candle of the Month: Sweet Tea Village Candle

June Village Candle of the Month: Sweet Tea

Easy Steps to Brewing Iced Tea

  1. Place 3-5 tea bags into 2 cups of boiling water.
  2. Steep black tea for 5 minutes and green tea for 2-3 minutes. Remove tea bags after allotted time.
  3. Pour the concentrated tea into a pitcher and add 2 cups water.
  4. Before chilling, let tea sit to room temperature to avoid clouding.
  5. To sweeten your iced tea, add you can add granulated sugar until it dissolves (this only works when the tea is hot!).  If the tea is cold, add simple syrup or try a flavored syrup (see recipes below) and stir until the syrup is dissolved.

Simple Syrup

Combine ¾ cup water with ¾ sugar in a saucepan and bring to a boil.  Stir until sugar is completely dissolved. Yields 1 cup (serving size 1 tablespoon)

Fresh Peach Syrup

Mash 1 cup peeled, ripe peach in a bowl.  Add hot simple syrup to peaches and let sit for 30 minutes.  Strain the mixture through a sieve and discard solids.

Mint-Lime Syrup

Place ¼ cup chopped, fresh mint leaves and 3 (2-inch) strips of lime in a small bowl.  Add hot simple syrup, cover, and let sit for 30 minutes.  Strain the mixture through a sieve and discard solids.

Raspberry-Chambord Syrup

Place 1 cup fresh raspberries in a small bowl and mash with a fork.  Add hot simple syrup and 2 tablespoons of Chambord.  Cover and let sit for 30 minutes.  Strain mixture through a sieve and discard solids.

Lavender Syrup

Rinse 1 tablespoon dried lavender buds (stems removed) under cold water, and place in a small bowl.  Add hot simple syrup, cover, and let sit for 30 minutes.  Strain mixture through a sieve and discard solids.

Cucumber-Ginger Syrup

Place ½ cup grated, peeled cucumber in a small bowl with 5 (¼ inch) pieces of peeled, fresh ginger.  Add hot simple syrup, cover and let stand 30 minutes.  Strain mixture through a sieve and discard solids.
